FAQs

  • I am a trained and qualified integrative counsellor.

I have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling from The Minster Centre (2025), one of the leading Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy training institutions in Europe.

Any counsellor or therapist you work with should have adequate training, and should be registered with a professional body and follow their ethical code. I’m a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and follow their ethical framework.

Though I’m a qualified counsellor, I’m also undertaking further study - I’m currently completing an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling at the Minster Centre.

I have experience working in low-cost and community-based counselling services in North West and South East London.

Before I trained as a counsellor, my career was predominantly in the charity sector, where I have worked in services supporting people who have survived gender-based violence, and people experiencing homelessness.

  • The themes and experiences I can support with include:

  • For an initial assessment, I charge £40 for a 50 minute session.

My standard fee is £75 per 50 minute session.

I believe therapy should be accessible to all - but I know cost prohibits this. For this reason, I provide a number of reduced-cost spaces. Please note, these spaces are limited - you are welcome to contact me for further details.

    I review my fees annually.

There is no lift at East London Therapy.

The waiting room is up a staircase of 13 steps, and then my room is up 18 more steps, in three sections. The stairs are well lit and have a handrail.

If you would like to discuss any access needs you may have, you are welcome to get in touch with me.

  • You might be nervous about coming to therapy, so I aim to give you as much information as possible so you know what to expect.

When you first contact me, I can offer a free, 20 minute phone/Zoom call to discuss the reasons you would like to come to therapy, and to talk about logistics.

If we have matching availability, I will offer a first ‘assessment’ session. I’ll send you a confirmation email with the date, time, and location.

This is a chance for us to meet, and for you to get a feel for how I work. However, in this session, I ask more specific questions than I would do usually. I aim to understand more about what is bringing you to therapy and what you want to focus on. I’ll ask some questions about your life history and your current set-up. I’ll also ask if you’ve had any therapy before - what was helpful, what was less helpful. We can talk through how I work, and I can answer any questions you might have.

This process is for both of us. You will want to see if I’m the right ‘fit’ for you as a counsellor. I will also be thinking about whether I have the right sort of training and experience to best support you.

Based on this conversation, we will agree whether we will start working together. If we agree to proceed, we will set a date and time for weekly sessions.

  • I offer sessions on an open-ended basis or for a set time.

People come to therapy for different lengths of time, at different points in their lives.

If we do work together on an open-ended basis, I make sure we regularly review our work together, to check in about how you’re finding our sessions, and if you’re getting what you want and need out of them.

  • You can fill out the contact form on this website, or email me directly at contact@alexduffytherapy.com.

I aim to respond to enquiries within 48 hours, but over weekends and bank holidays this may take longer.
